The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says it is aware of a viral social media trend involving AI-generated images and posts that reference schools, including some St. Johns County schools. Investigators have not identified any credible threats, according to officials.
Out of caution, St. Johns County said law enforcement will have an increased presence on school campuses across the county.
What families are being asked to do
School and law enforcement officials are asking students and parents not to repost or share the images or messages. Anyone who sees a concerning post should preserve a screenshot, report it to the social media platform and alert law enforcement.
Officials said online posts that mention a particular school, student, employee or violence will be treated seriously and investigated, even when they appear to be part of a prank or online trend.
The Sheriff’s Office and school district are monitoring social media activity as the posts circulate. Families are also being encouraged to talk with children about the potential consequences of creating, sharing or amplifying threatening content online.
