Safety Update – “Cat in the Hat” Social Media Posts
St. Johns County School District and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating AI-generated social media posts featuring “The Cat in the Hat” that are circulating on platforms nationwide and have been connected to local schools.
The district confirmed it is actively monitoring and reviewing the content alongside the Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Education’s Office of Safe Schools.
In a statement, officials said no credible direct or indirect threat has been identified at this time.
Schools will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow. The district says it will provide additional updates if new information becomes available.
The posts appear to be part of a broader national trend of AI-generated content using the beloved children’s character in threatening or inappropriate contexts targeting school communities across the country.
